Learning Circle
The Learning Circle started as an experiment in engaging with core ideas within oral history practice and reflecting on how we could absorb them into our practice.

The Learning Circle offers two kinds of programmes: a weekend programme on specific issues related to oral history and a longer month-long programme dedicated to reading a few key texts, engaging with them and exploring how we assimilate and integrate them into our approach to oral history.
We will discuss ethics and technical aspects. We will discuss, debate, argue and enjoy the process of doing interviews. Enjoyment is an element that serious research seems to push aside, but the oral history interview, like any human interaction is a process that is most successful when we approach it with a lightness of touch and enjoyment.
All participants are expected to have had some basic training in oral history and at the time of joining the Learning Circle are expected to have done at least two long interviews and have the recording and transcription ready with them.
There will be no certification but a lot of learning, thinking and churning.
The first two Learning Circles met three times a month on a fixed day for a 90 minute online session for a three month period every time. The participants were Ph.D. and Masters students, film makers, archivists, NGO workers who were using oral history. There were a few participants who were engaged in doing oral history interviews with family members.
