Interviewing Ghyanshyam and Ganga in Kanker, Chhatisgarh, 2008.
Naandi Foundation’s Oral History Archive.

Hi! I am Indira Chowdhury. I studied English Literature and then trained as a historian. I discovered what I most enjoyed when I started doing oral history interviews in 2003. My journey has taken to me to cities and villages and sometimes to very remote parts of India. In recent years I have started recording the life stories of family members. In this blog I share some exciting moments in my journey and insights I stumbled upon. What do people choose to talk about when asked about their lives? What do they remember and what do they forget? When do they fall silent? I explore here how people narrate their life stories in cultures rich in oral traditions. Hope you enjoy my reflections.
